The clash between Android and iOS fans is one of the hottest duels of opinions in the modern tech world. Each of these systems has its own base of firm supporters and each trench offers more and less reasonable arguments that might convince you to choose one of those two systems. However, here is a crew of avid smartphone users and we want to tell you more about their advantages and drawbacks in a neutral way.
All-round vs. focused approach
The main difference between these two systems is comprised in the philosophies behind these two companies. On one side, we have Google – a company whose growth and development were based on hard and innovative work of young geeks. Their once-open nature today is still visible almost only in the Android department. This is why this operating system can be found in smartphones manufactured by many different companies. However, this might start changing, too.
On the other side, we have Apple – their development was a little bit different and their business philosophy emphasizes individualism and self-generated success. As a result of such an approach, they produce only iPhones, iPods, and MacBooks. Their other products are mostly accessories that only enhance the multimedia experience brought by those three main groups of items. Of course, the work of each and every of them is based on iOS – a reliable, but a closed operating system.

Closed vs. open system
In addition to the all-rounder and focused approaches that Apple and Google apply, the main difference between these two companies is the level of openness of their operating systems. For instance, iOS is a closed system of applications and whatever action you want to perform with your data on your iPhone, it has to be done through iTunes.
Opposite to that, Android supports dozens of free apps on Google Play, some of which are free and some of which have to be paid for. Any app developer can post their apps to Google Play and contribute to it, so it is a mixture of an open-air market and a socialist utopia. However, such an open form of the Google Play store often results in dozens of useless or broken apps. On the other hand, iTunes guarantee a higher level of security for the apps they offer.
Resilience and upgradability
When it comes to upgradability, Android used to be a smarter choice, mainly due to the simple nature of its upgrades. However, it seems today that Google chiefs have decided to lean towards a more centralized approach. Their new updates come on time on the Google-made model (Nexus). But tend to be late for the devices produced by other companies.
Also, thanks to their simple shape and design, it seems that iOS-operated iPhones are much handier solutions in case they break down. Such a user-friendly approach to their design enables every authorized service that does iPhone repairs to perform it in a fast way. This is why users do not have to wait long for their devices to be repaired.
Although its general openness used to attract more people in that past. Today the initial liberal nature of Android is being replaced by a more profit-oriented policy. It could make other producers of smartphones start developing their own operating systems and heat up the battle for smartphone users on the global market.
In the meantime, Apple and their iOS remain a better choice for well-off smartphone users that want smoothly upgradable and easily repairable phones.
